Sat literally within Centraal Sation, the Amstel Passage is a connecting tunnel between the myriad transit options and Amsterdam’s city center. This passageway is dedicated to short-term bookings: perfect for showcasing young, temporal, upcoming brands one after another down the corridor. Sizzling neon lights illuminate the high-contrast aesthetic; reminiscent of a 90s diner, the passage evokes a sense of retro-modernism. There’s multiple options for brands to plug & play in the corridor, from size of storefront, storage options and storefront positioning. All locations start as a blank slate, so cosmetic changes are possible, but no significant modifications can be made.
Between the steady flow of travellers coming into and out of the city and the everchanging brands within the passage, the crowd can be hard to predict on any given moment of any given day. The majority of the foot traffic will be commuters, followers of brands appearing in the neighbouring spaces, tourists and curious locals wanting to check out what’s happening in the mix. The Lil’Amsterdam Club space hosts special events that bring together a fresh audience, and everyone is on the look out to discover what’s cool and hip in the passage.
Because of the nature of the Amstel Passages, brands and shops are often like ships in the night. Other than the staple of the Lil’ Amsterdam Club, it’s not uncommon to see a streetwear brand next to a tattoo shop, next to cosmetics pop-up next to an art gallery. Amstel Passage is a refreshing box of chocolates every visit, which makes it popular with repeat tourists and an unpredictable visit in the same breath.
The space does not have its own toilets, but there are some located in the common area.
